If we are talking about abu spools, it's true all are not the same design and thus have different weights and the same if you were casting another reel, but my concern is with the weight of the line.  Question, if the spools all weigh the same then once filled with line. which would weigh the most and thus need more control to slow.  One filled with .25, .28, .31. or .35?

Spooled to the same level I'd say .25. The thinner diameter should allow a tighter lay with less gap between layers.

The natural braking on the thicker lines is greater and will allow you to roll off the mags quicker as the line level drops faster.

It would be interesting to actually weigh the spools filled.  If you were to keep the line level at only the amount needed to make your cast, then you would save weight and get the natural breaking effect as well, but I have tried that with little success.  It may just come down to the initial mag setting, i remember Neil McKellow once saying, to much mag would kill a cast.  I doubt many will ever make more casts than Neil has.

I was actually going with this train of thought on the heavier line, many big casts have been recorded on .35, I was thinking excellent conditions may benifit the larger line, if not everytime, sometimes.  Worth experimenting with at least.  You may have already tried this, but most work done here is on the lighter lines.....comeon

Although I don't need that much line ;), I tend to overstuff my reels.

If I let the line level get low due to breakoffs, I notice a significant loss of distance, due to the fact that I am throwing less line per spool revolution.

As long as I am not fluffing, I do not get concerned with reducing line level as a means of weight control.

Just my take.
